Top Ten Signs

You Know You're A Firefighter…

  • You can hear a siren before your dog notices it.
  • You can roll around in anything that just burned to make your new turnout gear look old.
  • When you go to rent a movie you end up getting Backdraft every time.
  • Your kids are afraid to get into water fights with you.
  • You take great joy in smashing the windows of a car parked in front of a fire hydrant.
  • Your work gear makes you sound like Darth Vader.
  • You think the rusty old fire hydrant looks good in the middle of the garden.
  • You have said, "She's hot tonight," and you were not talking about a woman.
  • You can tell what type of a fire it is by the smell of the smoke ten miles away.
  • All the shirts you own say you are a firefighter.

The Upgraded SB-008 Phantom is Here

The upgraded SB-008 Phantom signifies major advancements in emergency vehicle light control technology. It sets the bar high as the premium independent light control unit with the following technological advanced features:

  • Face Programmable: Intuitively select on/off grouped with the Master Switch, momentary or timed momentary by pushing the button to scroll through different control options.
  • Master Switch for Grouped Outputs: This new feature simulates a lever switch in the 3rd position by activating the outputs programmed in the group. Each grouped switch may still be individually controlled.
  • Multiple Gunlock Timers: More than one output starting with switch 8 and going in reverse order may be programmed to activate multiple gunlocks.
  • Output Diagnostic Indicators: Sensors at the output connectors monitor the outputs and display the status on the face of the unit. .

With the SB-008 Phantom, a light control system that is high-tech and programmable no longer relegates the buyer to an all in one light control styled siren.

Thanks To Our Visitors

Carson Sirens had the pleasure of hosting two groups at our Indianapolis facility in June. The first group was the Police Car Owners of America club. During their event, we had a private car show with Carson employees and Indianapolis Police Department (IPD) officers as judges, took club members on a plant tour, and finished with an awards luncheon with prizes for the best looking car (see photo).

The next week we welcomed all the Carson Sirens Representatives for two days of training. They were entertained with a private demonstration by the World Champion IPD Motorcycle Drill Team.

Our thanks to the Police Car Owners of America and the IPD Motorcycle Drill Team, we had a great time.

Ask the Engineers

When there is no sound or the siren is blowing fuses, how can you tell if it's the siren or speaker that is causing the problem? - Jerry

First, you need to isolate the problem. Do this by disconnecting the speaker leads at the siren amplifier, replacing any blown fuses and turn the siren on to the yelp position and follow the below steps. If either the siren amplifier or speaker(s) fails one of the steps, contact the distributor or manufacturer's service department:

  • If the replaced fuse blows quickly, check for proper power lead polarity to the amplifier. If the wiring is correct, the amplifier is probably damaged.
  • If the fuse does not blow, listen for the yelp tone faintly coming from the amplifier box. If you do not hear the yelp, the amplifier may be damaged.
  • If you can faintly hear the siren tone the amplifier is functioning properly, check the resistance across the leads to the speaker with an ohmmeter. Siren speakers typically measure about 4 ohms. If the ohmmeter reads zero or an open circuit, the speaker leads or the speaker is damaged or disconnected.
